What does the tarot deck represent?

Each card in a deck has a different meaning. Each and every Tarot Deck can also have a different meaning. The main thing to realise is that the Tarot are a set of archetypal symbols. This symbology is a reflection of life and its lessons.In my more traditional (Mythic Tarot) deck there are total 78 Cards containing 22 Major Arcana, 56 Minor Arcana (including 16 Court Cards). This is common for the older traditional Decks. I tend to use this deck more or in conjunction with other decks.

The Major Arcana represents the cycle of Life including Birth, Transformation, Love, Creation, Karma, Death, Judgment and Re-Birth Starting the cycle all over again. The Major Arcana are the bigger lessons in life.The Minor Arcana represent the smaller lessons in life as we travel between the Major lessons. The Minor Arcana are then split into different sections or suits :

There are many finer points about the cards and what they represent, like the different Myths, Astrological influences, Keywords and Symbology that goes with each card, but then what would be the point in me running Tarot courses if you could learn everything I know about them off my web site :)

Summary...Seeing the cards from this point of view and what I feel they represent hopefully takes some of the mystique away from them and at the end of the day, anyone can read the cards, but what makes a difference is the amount of training and awareness the reader brings to them. Also If you as a potential seeker have a little knowledge about the imagery and meanings of the Tarot, then this removes any apprehension you may have about having a reading. I hope this helps.
