Reiki Attunements and Initiations

The term initiation refers to the study/attunement to the Reiki Energy and the teaching of Usui Shiki Ryoho (the Usui System of Natural Healing)

Reiki was once upon a time, long long ago taught to students over a 1 - 5 year period. By this I mean the student would often live with the Master for the whole term of learning eg. Reiki 1st Degree 1 year, then a second year for Reiki 2nd Degree, and finaly several years for the Reiki Masters Degree.

The Masters degree was only taught to the student by invitation, when the Teacher/Master would feel that the student to be ready to take on such a responsibility. The decision was the Masters and not the students.

Each Level of Reiki is reached when the student goes through a process called an Attunement. This is where the Reiki Master 'Tunes' in the Reiki student to the required level of reiki that they have been learning. If you have not had an attunement you are not using Reiki. Reiki levels are only achieved when an attunement has been given by a Reiki Master. An Attunement is a Physical interaction between Master and Student. Unfortunateley learning from books does not attune you.
